Hello, we are Michael and Monika from Cinema Nation CIC, a queer-led community interest company based in Liverpool 8, and today we launch our new project Shield Circles, supporting artists and cultural workers who have been in isolation due to shielding throughout the Covid-19 pandemia.

We want to develop new tools and inclusive practices to improve participation in the cultural life of the city for all.

After a period of research, we are now calling out for artists* and cultural workers across all disciplines affected by shielding** (either themselves or a member of their household) due to Covid-19 to form a peer support circle to reflect on their experience and collaborate in producing a new artwork as a response. The result of this getting together will be a better practice guide for cultural organisations to improve accessibility and inclusion.

We are looking for 6 artists from a range of disciplines to take part in this pilot project. Please note there is a paid contribution for participants’ time and budget for the final collaborative piece. If you would like more information, please contact Michael and Monika at monikamichael@tutanota.com or on 0151 538 1973 (Mon – Fri, 10am – 5pm). Deadline for participation is Friday 1st July 5pm.

This initiative is supported by Culture Liverpool.

* Our definition of artist is anyone who practices in the creative arts, not just limited to painting

** Our definition of shielding is that you or a member of your household during the Covid-19 pandemic between 2020-2021 were advised to stay at home via a personal letter by the government.
